True Christianity

Posted in Uncategorized by Hams on 2008/03/21

Such a great poem sent to me by my friend Carla today.  This explains the truth of Christianity, not the faultfiding vision some impose on themselves, and others. (more…)

‘Cuz you gotta have it….

A quote about faith….

“As one looks back through the ages, all the great men are men of faith: the Newtons, Faradays, Darwins, Marconis, men with faith which they confirmed by experiment. Luther and Garibaldi, Washington and Lincoln, men of action as well as thought, were primarily men of faith. But infinitely above all, Jesus himself is the supreme example of a man of faith. Even on his cross he was absolutely confident, though as far as any human eye could see then, his faith, judged by results, was ‘unreasonable.’ The same is absolutely true of social life. The men who are really great and loved in social life are those who have faith in the meaning of life. Faith is the main factor in achieving the loftiest goal in any department of life. Careful statistics taken in the United States in 1926 show that over eighty per cent of her leaders are men with faith in God, and that man needs this power outside himself to help him manage his own life. Today such men as Woolworth, Colgate, Heinz, Kresge, Rockefeller, Welch, Wanamaker, Roosevelt, Wilson, Taft, Babson, Mayo, Graham Bell, Ford, Cushing, Osler, Vail, Coolidge and Morgan are men with faith in God.”

American Idle

Who knew I would be somewhat of an outdoorsy person?  it’s frustrating having missed six weeks of another incredible Phoenix “winter”.

Being confined to my apartment is a new phenomenon.  TV has become my latest vice.

Seven more days until this changes.

A pre-emptive strike has been made towards unimpaired ambulation.  I see Dr. Peterson, my friendly orthopedic surgeon, at 1pm next Tuesday and have ever so efficiently scheduled my first physical therapy visit at 3:30 the same day.

All these arrangements have been made.  I hope and pray my ankle x-ray comes out unremarkable next Monday.

It’s sorta like Groundhog Day.  Hopefully Punxsutawney Peterson won’t see any shadows.

Just ducky

My dad and stepmom have empty nest syndrome so they’ve resorted to ducks.

{Yes, I do think I’m clever.  Yes, I do have far too much free time on my hands.}

The ducks really are cute though!

Letter to the Editor

I’m a letter writer.  An insatiable letter writer, and most of the time, I get results.  One letter resulted in a fraudulent physician having to write a check back to Blue Cross Blue Shield.  Another resulted in all of the employees of another physicians office having to go through privacy training after continued violations of the HIPAA Privacy Rule.

Today’s inciting incident was Channel 3 news.  Patrick Swayze’s smoking after chemo.  Who cares?!  Who is he hurting?  Himself and his family.  Pardon my cynicism, but what would quitting smoking do for him at this point?  Pancreatic cancer has a 5% survival rate after five years.  Dead man walking.  It’s completely awful.

So this cute little news anchor likens his continuance of a 3 pack-a-day habit to an alcoholic getting a liver transplant then reuniting with their own 6 pack-a-day habit.

Because organs don’t grow on trees, anyone listed for an organ transplant undergoes a rigorous medical and social interview.  If a transplant surgeon suspected he/she was going to boomerang back to Budweiser, I am confident in saying this patient would not be listed.  There’s no money to be made in dead patients and bad transplant outcomes. Idle time

Sex and the City.  I’m ambivalent towards this show.  An interesting statement considering Monday through Thursday, I end each day with a double, sometimes triple, dose of Carrie Bradshaw and her contemptuous liberating sex life.

Each weekday night, these four fictitious women copulate their way through an imaginary alternate Manhattan universe.  It’s addicting, albeit, disturbing, so it is inconceivable how this habit developed.

In related news, Aidan is narrating the newest Applebees commercials.

Two more weeks

Posted in Uncategorized by Hams on 2008/03/12

Today I realized in about a month, it will have been a year since my open heart.

I have two more weeks remaining in my most recent medical melodrama. Meaning:  I’ll be walking in time to throw myself a party.

Save the date for April 11th!

I’m thinking of asking Pastor if I can write a blog with that title on our church’s website.

That would rule.

Mea culpa

Everyone wants to do it – hop into Doc Brown’s plutonium-powered De Lorean time machine and (pardon the term, please) bitch slap a naive, younger version of self circa ____ (insert event/time or even a fashion statement you regret).

If you kept a journal, bonus points.  Read it to yourself mockingly after you’ve successfully completed time travel to perform aforementioned transaction.  Repeat transaction. (more…)

If you love someone, set them free.

If they come back to you, they couldn’t find anyone else.

The End
